In an industry where sustainability plays an increasingly important role, distinguishing between genuine environmental commitments and communication strategies has become essential.

Materials marketed as “eco-friendly,” “green” buildings, and “sustainable” products are becoming increasingly common, but to what extent are these claims substantiated?

In this second session, which will take place at the Laufen Roca Lisboa Gallery, we will explore the role of building and product certifications, seeking to understand what they assess, what their limitations are, and what guarantees they offer. The discussion will also address the phenomena of greenwashing and social washing in the construction and interior design sectors, analyzing how they manifest themselves, from technical data sheets to brand communication campaigns.

Against a backdrop of increasing regulatory requirements at the European level—aimed at combating generic or unsubstantiated environmental claims—it is important to develop a more critical and informed perspective on the solutions available on the market.

Held in a roundtable format, the session begins with a central question: What questions should we ask before trusting a sustainability claim—whether from a supplier, a material, or a building?

The discussion will be moderated by Inês Viana and Alexandra Santos of CPlace.
