On 21 October at 7:00 pm, we will host in Roca Barcelona Gallery the third event organised in collaboration with the Fundació Enric Miralles Hydroaesthetics: Water as a Language of Contemporary Creation.
This conference invites us to explore water from a rarely considered perspective: not only as an essential natural resource or an environmental challenge, but also as a creative language that has accompanied the evolution of art, design and culture.
Beyond its physical dimension, water is also a cultural material. It shapes landscapes and cities, transforms materials, influences production techniques and inspires forms, colours, textures and atmospheres. Yet its true power lies in its ability to create meaning. Water not only shapes objects; it also constructs narratives, evokes emotions and gives form to collective imaginaries that transcend disciplines and cultures.
From this perspective emerges the concept of hydroaesthetics: a curatorial approach that understands aesthetics not as a celebration of form, but as an expression of the relationships between matter, culture, territory and ecology.
At a time when design faces the challenge of responding to the climate emergency without renouncing innovation or beauty, a new way of understanding the role of water within creative processes is emerging. Water is no longer a secondary element, but becomes a true narrative resource: a medium capable of shaping identity, connecting disciplines and opening up new ways of thinking about contemporary creativity.
Beauty no longer resides solely in the final object, but also in the ecological, cultural and material stories that the object is able to reveal.
